[Mujina]
Mujina is not the name of any particular animal. Badgers, Racoons, Weasels, and the like, are all called “Mujina”.
In Japanese Folklore, they appear as shapeshifting creatures who appear in many different forms, and often trick humans. The Mujina that appear in Lafcadio Hearn’s stories are a famous example of these.
In this movie, the Mujina is portrayed as a mythical creature, who has taken on the form of a human.

貉とは、特定の動物種を指すのではなく、おもにアナグマやタヌキ、ハクビシンのような動物の総称である。それだけにとどまらず、民話のなかでは、人を化かす妖怪として描かれることも多い。小泉八雲（ラフカディオ・ハーン, Lafcadio Hearn）の怪談に登場する「貉」は世界的にも有名。本作に登場する貉は、人の姿に化けて出るコミカルな妖怪として描かれている。
